Am I the only one frustrated by the latest Pokémon games who have fun here?
I'm 34, I've loved Pokémon since Red and Blue (I think it was Green and Red in Japan?) and I've been really disappointed by the latest games (Sword and Shield, and Scarlet and Violet).

I personally loved Arceus, which I find quite similar to PalWorld in terms of combat/capture.

I really feel that with Palworld, all those frustrated with the Pokémon license (like me) are going to get a good game that isn't broken, that's fun to play, where the survival mechanics are cool and you can customize them if there are things you don't like, etc.

And it's only an Early Access.
I'm optimistic.

I still play the mainline Pokémon games... I guess I've played them all, but yeah. Pokémon is pretty lifeless rn and honestly this game is great. I think because it's just a decent survival game with monster collecting in it. I think also Pokémon just has stagnated and Gamefreak can't or won't try to really make any massive changes and lacks the heart and passion of their old games. I don't really blame them, they made great games that I loved for a long time. But some devs just run out of steam or don't transition well into newer generations. I think gamefreak or a new company could do great things with the IP it they get some new devs in there someday though.

I had read that it was because Pokémon Company didn't give the means (financial and time) to make decent games due to the schedules of animated series / card series etc.

Basically, they don't want the games to be released later than the TV series or whatever.

All Pokemon has to do is rip this game off. Copy paste it, tit for tat. The marketing is already done.

Game Freak doesnt make good Pokemon games anymore, all they have in mind is money.

your opinion is basically the opinion of most people our age and has been for years, so no, you are not the only one.
A simple google would have sufficed.

I’ve always enjoyed most Pokémon games. The last one I truely had a blast with was Legends Arceus which was such a great game since it changed a lot of the base formula that game freak had been sticking to for years. Pal world is everything I had hope from a modern Pokémon game. The feeling of actually doing something with the creatures instead of them just living in a ball 95% of the time makes the world feel more alive and active.

Legends of Arceus was a let down for me. It just looks so bland and half-baked. I like some of it, like the pokemon and crafting, but it's not really the quality you'd expect. Same can be said about SS and SV but the latter had so many more bugs.

The Switch era has been just the absolute worst for Pokemon with mainline stuff, Arceus being the only one that was generally okay. Initially I was hopeful, that even though it is a very clear ripoff with its designs and such, it could be a replacement. Unfortunately Palworld isn't the replacement. It's got aspects that are close, but the game itself is too different, it's trying to be something else while mostly just having the Pokemon collecting bit.

As for what the game specifically is, I think it's decent, though I'm probably getting close to being done with the game here soon, not that I beat it, but there's a lot of emptiness here and I think rather than grind out all the content available, I'll just come back to the game if it hits 1.0 and start over then.

I grew up, but pokemon never did.

I tried playing some of the older games, but the writing was... atrocious. Like, I know the writing isn't the focus, and that the game is supposed to be played by kids so as a kid, I had no issues with it. But as an adult, it was the equivalent of being forced to watch a show made for toddlers. It affected me enough that I couldn't get through the game and quit trying to play the older games.

The fan games were slightly better because they didn't have to worry about brand image,

Not sure if the new games are better, I heard good things about pokemon concierge though that's not a game but a show.

i bought a Switch just to play Pokemon and it was the biggest money waste of my life, 700€ for like 1-2 months max before i got bored, i never used the Switch again after.

thinking about it i should definetly sell that piece of trash. its just collecting dust anyways.

but yeah about the original topic, Palworld is awesome, already way better than any original Pokemon game ever will be. Nintendo doesn't even care about the huge amount of cheaters in Pokemon PVP, a service that literally costs monthly to even play online on the Switch mind you.
