gatherable objects hp multiplier
does setting it to 3 just make it take 3 times as long to gather or does it also have 3 times as much stuff in it?

also the respawn interval: higher number is slower respawning?

going to bump this despite only being 20 minutes old because it is already pushed to page 4 by jobless people who are unsuccessfully trying to cancel the game.

does anyone know? it would suck to find out in 2 hours that the settings did the opposite of what i thought
Surely it would only take a minute to check, you can change the setting at any time

I guess so. To make it 50% of original you make it 0.5, to make it twice as tanky you make it 2.

i havent played it yet so i dont have context for what is normal nor do i want the first 5 minutes of the experience to be a couple of field tests if that makes sense

Update 2024-01-28:

Summary

  • Gatherable Objects Health Multiplier (GOHM) affects the HP of trees/rocks. Lower HP = fewer hits to destroy a tree/rock.
  • GOHM also affects the amount of wood from trees, but not stone. Lower HP = fewer wood from 1 tree. This may or may not be a bug.
  • Gatherable Items Multiplier (GIM) affects the amount of wood/stone from trees/rocks. It works as expected, nothing weird to report. Stacks with GOHM's effect on wood.
  • All info here was tested with the player character. I don't know if Pals are affected by the settings.

Note: "Gatherable objects" refers to gathering nodes like trees and rocks, not the small amounts of wood and stone lying on the ground.

Test results

Tested using a new character with stone axe and stone pickaxe, no Pals, gathering a single tree and rock in the starting area. Created a new world for each test to make sure the settings apply correctly.

This table shows the hits needed to destroy 1 tree/rock and the amount of loot from it, at various values of GOHM.

Hits needed may be +/-1 due to random damage variation.

+--------------------------------------------------+ | GOHM | 1.0 | 0.5 | 3.0 | |===========+============+============+============| | Tree hits | 16 | 8 | 46 | |-----------+------------+------------+------------| | Tree loot | 22 wood, | 12 wood, | 62 wood, | | | 6 fibre | 3 fibre | 18 fibre | |-----------+------------+------------+------------| | Rock hits | 51 | 26 | 152* | |-----------+------------+------------+------------| | Rock loot | 50 stone, 5 paldium fragments, 2 ore | +--------------------------------------------------+

*The pickaxe broke at 150 hits, so I had to make a new one and account for the materials used.

I tested different values of GIM as well, but it works as expected so no need to list all the combinations of GIM x GOHM.

Possible bugs

this just became more complicated for no reason. the stone payout does NOT increase or decrease with HP but wood does. these 2 screenshots are identical in settings with the sole change being 0.5 gatherable object multiplier for BOTH and 0.5 hp for one with 3.0 hp for the other.

the one that had more hp did give more wood (though about 4.5 times as much for 6 times the hp) but the stone one did nothing but make the rock take 6 times as many hits for the exact same payout. see screenshots. same single rock and single tree in both worlds. made fresh worlds both times.

Gatherable Objects HP Multiplier changes both the HP and loot of gatherable objects like trees.

The default in Normal difficulty is 1.0. If you set it to 0.5, trees take half as many hits to destroy, but also give roughly half the loot.

Basically, if you want to gather the same amount of materials at 2x speed, you need to set Gatherable Objects HP Multiplier to 0.5 and Gatherable Items Multiplier to 2.0.

Also, if you change it after world creation, it doesn't seem to apply. I tried gathering all the trees in a spot, leaving to main menu, changing the setting, then reloading the world. Also tried restarting the game completely. The respawned trees still have the same HP set at world creation. Maybe it needs to fully unload/respawn by moving far away and/or waiting for the full respawn timer, who knows.

Test results

Tested using a new level 2 character with stone axe, no Pals, gathering a single tree in the starting area. Created a new world for each to make sure the settings apply correctly.

The hits needed to destroy a tree completely may be +/-1 depending on random damage variation, but the loot is always the same.

Default Normal difficulty (1x items, 1x HP)

Gatherable Items Multiplier: 1.0
Gatherable Objects HP Multiplier: 1.0
Hits needed: 16
Loot: 22 wood, 6 fibre

1x items, 0.5x HP

Gatherable Items Multiplier: 1.0
Gatherable Objects HP Multiplier: 0.5
Hits needed: 8
Loot: 12 wood, 3 fibre

2x items, 0.5x HP

Gatherable Items Multiplier: 2.0
Gatherable Objects HP Multiplier: 0.5
Hits needed: 8
Loot: 22 wood, 6 fibre

It does only apply on the Ores that spawns fresh.

what do you mean exactly?
magenight Jan 26, 2024 @ 3:00am
So what about if you set both higher, surely not having to wait for a respawn on the node or tree would be better than blasting through it?

there is not really any point to discuss the merit of personal preferences the goal is to understand the mechanics. and mechanic wise if you set gatherable object multiplier higher then you get more wood and stone.

but gatherable object HP is either weird or bugged as it seems to affect the yield of trees (more HP = more wood and fiber) but NOT stone
kralmir Jan 26, 2024 @ 3:32am
it gets worse.... i let a tree that gave me 32 wood and 9 fiber with 0.5 yield multiplier and 3.0 hp multiplier respawn and it gave 12 wood and 3 fiber afterwards..... the hits needed also reduces by 3 fold so back to 1.0 hp

rocks remain unaffected by respawning. im going to report it and hopefully it is indeed just a bug and eventually the answer will become: "hp only affects total swings needed without affecting yield"

Ok, I can confirm this with stone. My bad for assuming it'd work consistently. I mean Pocketpair only has 4 years experience working on another crafting game.

That would make sense for wood only if your base relied on natural trees instead of the logging farm. Then setting HP higher would make trees last longer and give more wood.

But since kralmir discovered stone doesn't work the same way, it's probably still better to lower the HP to get stone faster in early game.

Also, that's assuming Pals are affected by the setting in the same way as the player, and there aren't any other differences/bugs with other ores...

do you understand you replied to a 16 month old message of a game that is in active development? everything he said and tested did exist 16 months ago.

since a disclaimer is needed for people who COMMENT ON A 16 MONTH OLD THREAD OF A GAME THIS IS IN ACTIVE DEVELOPMENT: the information in this entire thread is likely to be largely if not entirely wrong at this point
