Pals all depressed and starving after relog
Hi, so my base pals are all depressed, starving and with ulcers after leaving my dedicated server running overnight. Apparently they just don't eat while you're offline, but their stats still go down? There was plenty of food for them in their feeding trough thing.

seems to be an issue
This is definitely an expected issue so I would expect it be resolved by the official release.

I think a big problem is the AI with palls just kinda suck they get stuck way to much & it seems to only get worse when no one is near the base so if no one is going back to check on them every niw & then they will all eventually just get ♥♥♥♥♥♥.
So we've been having this problem on and off for a while and I've been trying to find work around and solutions.

One thing we've noticed so far is that they stop functioning after X amount of time. We're not sure how long before they begin to malfunction.

However, if anyone is in render distance of the base, regardless if they are in the same guild or not, the pals will begin operating again.

Some of my server's players bases are further away from others. So when one of us sees their base in the distance we can see all the Pals standing around. However, once we get right up in their faces they begin to move around again if they haven't reached the incapacitated stage.

There have been a few times where I've seen someone else base that forgot to put their Pals up and notice they are all either starving or hungry. After standing in their base for a minute all the Pals rush to the feedbox and feed themselves until they're no longer hungry and go back to the tasks around them.

I don't know if this is necessarily an AI bug since they can still do what they should if re-rendered, but more of a "not performing if not rendered" thing. And this is a problem because it's taking a single player approach where an un-rendered base is supposed to be "paused" but the multiplayer approach to their basic needs, causing the problem of the Pals thinking they're supposed to be in pause mode but still draining their SAN and hunger stats.

This is just one problem, but there is definitely more compounding on top of it because we're still having the problem even if you leave your character logged in and AFK with the work bell set to "focus on work" and raids not being at the base.
So upon testing a few things. Its a bug with food and Pals cannot path to and from food while the player is offline so they just sit and not eat. We turned off the food for the pals in the server and it seemed to fix the problem and now when we log in the pals are still working like they are intended to. For some reason the pals and getting food is the issue when offline.

When we are offline our base isn't getting raided, but pals are starving and gaining negative statuses, even with food containers full. It is like they go comatose when nobody is on and just waste away.

With 15 pals it takes way too much time to farm mats and make the medicines each time we come back. I find it hard to believe this is intentional gameplay design, as it makes you not want to come back to the awaiting massive disaster.

you need to feed your pals a variety of cooked foods. not just raw berries, those provide ZERO sanity unless they are cooked.
My group will be interested in a fix, or any workaround. I tried flipping 'Exist Player After Logout' to true, didn't really seem to do much. Since we have multiple people playing, having someone stash all the workin' Pals seems tedious, so we might just end up turning off Pal hunger and damage until this is worked out. Having to spend a ton of time farming up medicine resources is a drag.

So far on my dedicated server my main base has never had an issue but my sub base in the volcano sometimes overnight bugs out and they all starve and other overnight they work fine. I know that the other players haven’t gone to the volcano yet. I have the same pals so I cannot tell what triggering them to work when I log off.

how do you suddenly deactivate hunger?

i store all mine on the last page because the game is in EA and its very VERY broken in alot of aspects.. not sure why its so positive lol
Try making jelly buns and use that as feed. They restore sanity more than berries. If their sanity drops, they increase the risk of injury.
Same thing here, after away from overnight all the pals are hurt and hungry in two of the 3 bases.

when I teleport to the base they all drop from the mid and hurry to eat food.
I don't think I will keep playing much if they have to be babysat 24/7
Something needs to be done about this ASAP.
I had been playing near 24/7 for a few days, which means it wasn't a problem. But going from yesterday evening to today without logging in, everyone outside of my main base was depressed, starving, injured, whathaveyou, on top of a Raid happening within minutes of logging in.

If my main base can sustain themselves on berries and hot springs while doing MORE work, why can't my mining bases?

This was an extreme mood kill against the game, my boyfriend and I were so close to being able to face the legendaries...

As a grown person, I don't have the time (or want) to commit 24/7, 7 days a week, 4 weeks a month, etc., etc. to a game to make sure I'm not penalized for wanting to do other things outside of the game.

i mean no it shouldn't. The whole point of a dedicated server is to have stuff still happening (i.e. harvesting, building, crafting etc). But pals should behave as they do when online. They should eat, take breaks take baths etc. Which seems not to be happening atm.

Its not one or the other, games do both. Valheim pauses the server when no one is on. In Ark, it does not pause. The point of a dedicated server is to have a source for multiple people to play in the same instance. Want a really odd one? Lets take Grounded.

In Grounded you don't have dedicated servers, at least not on Gamepass. You have a shared cloud save. Someone can load the save and play the game, if someone else also tries to load the save they are now in a co-op game. It only really loads any server or multiplayer functionality when it needs too but yet it functions as a dedicated server.
