Curious about something related to Pals...
Why were some Pals based on some of the Pokémons from a very cursed, and a lot of the time over the line of what is acceptable, rom hack made by people from 4chan called Pokémon Clover? (PS: don't search about it, it's very very cursed and not really that good for most people; yes, this is a real warning)

Not going to dig a lot on this but I will simply pull one of the most obvious examples:
Lamball[palworld.wiki.gg] looks very similar to Fluffyeti[www.clipartkey.com].

Yes, I'm honestly curious why, from all the things you could use as a base, this was picked... it feels very very wrong because this makes me think a lot that some, or all, Pals were either:
a) AI generated based on Pokémon being used as a search and this got picked in the middle, which I thought that Steam was against that tbqh, but maybe not if the game prints enough money?
b) there is someone in the team really using a 4chan game as a base for some stuff in this game... oof

I wish the best to the team after the failure that Craftopia, the past game used as a base for this game, because this game looks a lot better

==edit==
Creator already admitted on twitter that uses AI to generate them to be trendy. Seems like I was right

They did not pull from Pokemon Clover, you overestimate how many people have heard of a random Pokemon romhack, that one is not even a popular one, as far as rom hacks go.

Fluffyeti is a really simple design (and Lamball too). Millions of things have made a sheep like those two prior to either of those things. I had a toy sheep when I was 5 (over 20 years ago) that looked like Lamball.

Why are Pokemons a 1 to 1 copy paste from Dragon Quest...?
And no AI was used in Palworld,
And Lamball is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ SHEEP

This is just another sad Pokemon Fanbot Topic right?

The AI Pokemon comments he made were, quoting machine translation...

He was speaking of someone else's fan creations utilizing AI.

His general comments amount to this:

If you pass it through the filter of AI, the image is often not of a specific thing, so maybe the copyright issue will be resolved? I was surprised to see that the world is actually moving in that direction.

In about 30 years, the general public's perception of copyright may have changed considerably.

Instead, please play AI Art Impostor!! This is a real-time image generation game! (Requires 4 friends)

So let's summarize our evidence.

  • The CEO was astounded by someone's AI art post putting AI-generated Pokemon and authentic Pokemon side by side.
  • The CEO was surprised to see that the world is shifting towards overlooking copyright because an image is passed through AI. The surprise implies he had no plans of doing this himself. He states that his timeframe for this becoming a legal norm is 30 years; that's substantially down the road from the release of Palworld, which was only two years later. We have no way of knowing from this "proof post" I'm looking at what exactly he was commenting on.
  • A comment on what was almost surely this tech demo, which was a thing for a hot minute.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aihq6jhdW-Q

Please note that GPT-4 is not the technology behind AI image generation. GPT4 is a text-based AI model used to generate predictive dialogue. The tech behind image generation AI like Midjourney and Stable Diffusion is more or less the same (it's neural networks), but when people talk about GPT-4, they're talking about something that outputs text, not images.[openai.com]
  • An advertisement for his mobile game, which generates AI images from scratch based on text prompts and has nothing whatsoever to do with Pokemon or anything remotely Pokemon-like. If anything it's borrowing from Among Us with its character design.

None of this amounts to a smoking gun, or even proximity to one.

No, there is a post where he says that he "can't wait to continue using AI to create more Palmons and end with 1000 and more", exactly like Pokémon. No idea if it's still there, changed, or removed, but it's hard to think something different after that.

By the way, the creator already worked in the past at Nintendo, it's clear as water that he doesn't respect the work of others and it's just aiming for a cheap way to get money. And, sadly, it's working and promoting more and more of these cases.

And no, the error here is thinking that AI is just ChatGPT. AI it's actually something very old and has being used a lot in the past by a lot of companies. It simply got a boom thanks to that specific AI project.

Hey, look, it's another person that also saw that image! Congratulations person #121342908293892839232 for achieving that! Did you also saw that in a random Youtube video? And by the way, you're comparing inspiration with clear rip-offs.

And I don't really care much about current Nintendo, their current games are more of the same old formula, it's showing that they're playing safe because it sells (nostalgia sells very easily) and it's pretty much that. So if you're going to insult me, at least do it properly since the last time I bought a Nintendo game was during the GBA times.

Now what I really hate is when companies do complete rip-offs of the work of others because it's the same as creating a bootleg. Bootlegs, in case you don't know, are hated for a reason: they're illegal copies of something good that is sold as the original. This is basically the same: "copy but do it a little different so that nobody really notices that we copied something".

Nah, that'd be the Earthbound Halloween Hack.
Pokemon-wise, I'm more familiar with Uranium than Clover.
