open your inventory and click on the "key items" tab at the top. you dont have to put them on your pal. just summon and press f to ride

It's automatically stored in your inventory under key items.

Three different ones, but then made a 2nd because I didn't know I still had the first. I assumed I had to manually equipped them to my pals. But now that I know.. this is better

I wish they didn't allow you to craft the ones you already have. I didn't, but it's only because I was worried about wasting my resources so double checked.

I just realized that the ones you've done the background turns a different color.
