Building Issues - List for the developers
For making a list of noticed issues I wanted to maybe keep this thread going as others might get buried.

1. Connection issues with building. (some structures do not snap on others. I think that all building structures should at most be freely connectable to others

2. building near cliffs or uneven walls.. I think for those who hate the "Building area blocked" it'd be a good choice to make it possible. for things like maybe building stairs or elevated platforms

3. basic foundation of the floor should be able to be raised or placed against roof for stair elevation. I wanted to build by the sea with stairs leading upstairs via outdoor roof access and the stairs refused to snapped and doesn't seem you can snap the flooring into place on higher elevation.

If anyone would like to add more on, please feel inclined to. as it should help keep a organized report for easier access and knowledge on some of the building issues.

Gonna tab in with a few extra issues.
A lot of short Pals get stuck on the edge of platforms, resulting in the need to add slanted roofs to assist them.
You can't rotate things like foundations, which is very noticeable with wood foundations as they have a noticeable direction

wait I thought... I am pretty sure you can rotate the foundations its just not that noticeable?

Did anyone have anymore to add to the list?

Going with your #1, There is no architectural support system in this game like Valheim. I should be able to use slanted roof pieces without the triangle pieces as "support." I should not have to put triangles in to make slanted roof pieces snap correctly to then delete the triangles cause I don't want them.

Also deleted part of my regular roof tiles to test something but could not but them back without deleting the slanted roof tiles because of collision detection. I should be able to replace what was there before if it fit.

Slightly adding onto this. The deletion of roof tiles and the placement of walls allows you to place stairs easier but like with the roof tiles its very janky.. not sure how else ot describe it, but stairs unless you have fairly open space will not place easily. going back to my original point. I figure that will be fixed shortly on.

People have had issues where Pals refused to use the 2nd floor of a building they made, possibly because they used the roofs as the floor for the 2nd floor and the Pals see it as a "roof" and refuse to walk on it. If it doesn't exist we need a "Floor" piece that can be used inside a building to seperate floors and build on. I think well we got is the foundation and then roof? Unless the foundations will snap to the top of a wall to form the 2nd floor? I haven't tried.

I was actually talking to someone earlier thinking that having roofs as the second floor could be the reason it isn't acknowledging it. I'm guessing I was fairly spot on. for the most part

the slanted roof piece is almost impossible to place.

I have quite a few things I'd like to add. First, the critically important items:

  • The ability to independently position what the item you're building, without having to move your character, possibly via some sort of build mode. The ability to manually adjust the items height is particularly important for things like flooring. As it currently stands, getting items into the right position can be overly finicky, especially if you're building near a cliff or somewhere with limited space.
  • We need to be able to manually pick whether stairs are being build up or down from floors and ceilings. The current setup, where you can only build stairs going down is kind-of absurd and makes creating pal-friendly (or hopefully pal-friendly) paths to higher elevations much harder than it should be.
  • With the way they're currently implemented, floors and flat ceilings should share all of the same snap points, including being able to snap to each other.
  • Let us force clipping on terrain for things like walls, floors, ceilings, and stairs. We should also be able to forcibly clip them through each other. This is, again, to help with building around cliffs and other pieces of uneven terrain, where you might need a set of stairs or slanted ceiling to only go up part of its total height. It would also help in cases where an object "needs more support", but it's right up against the ground/a cliff.
  • Give us the ability to move things without having to manually destroy and rebuild them, and preferably without having to unload them (for storage). This would make it much easier to rearrange your base as it expands and save on a lot of tedious busy work.
  • Speaking of storage, show us the storage capacity of containers [b[before[/b] we build them. I thought the bar storage would have notably better capacities than the basic chest, since all of it has more expensive build costs, but all of the pieces I've looked at so far have about the same or significantly less. The wall storage only has 2 slots for some reason, which makes it all but worthless.
  • Don't count the player avatar or pals as blocking building placement, especially for party pals that automatically follow you and who can't be easily dismissed.

Now, with that out of the way, let's move on to some less important and/or tangentially related features.

  • Let us turn on an overlay that shows valid movement paths for pals, so we can tell if they can actually path to their beds and work sites. (Pal pathing, in general, needs some major improvements, but that's a separate issue.)
  • Similarly, let us manually mark areas as off limits for Pals, so they don't do things like walk of cliffs.
  • Let us assign jobs on the building side of things, rather than solely via throwing the Pals, which seems finicky at best.
  • Give us an overlay that can show the hit boxes/exclusion areas for buildables, when they are larger than the objects itself.
  • Give us the ability to establish build grids and snap things two those grids. (This is probably less of an issue if we get a proper build mode).
  • More variations on walls and doors, including half walls, walls with larger windows, walls with double doors, and walls with an open arch.

Ok, I think that's everything that's strictly or tangentially building related. At least for now.

Placing objects next to eachother is a nightmare of finnicking to get to the inventory of the chest/workbench you need

a bit of a nitpick but being able to build above water would be nice

Loosen the building restriction please! it's worst than ark
Makes building a nightmare to deal with.

In addition to everything said above, it would be wonderful if the triangle wall pieces could snap in place INVERTED as well.

I was trying to that too.

another thing is they need to allow overlapping its getting too annoying trying to build bases on uneven environments

hoping this list helps the developers. please continue to support this list of issues?
