Character not loading on a dedicated server

Hello,

I have set up a dedicated server using SteamCMD, and it have been working fine for me and my friends the whole day.

We decided to restart the server because someone got stuck in a wall, and when I booted up the server again, both me and my friends are now prompted with the character creator screen.

Honestly very stumped :(
All our progression is gone for the whole day now.
Altough for some reason I can still see all of my discovery, so the boss icons, the fast travel points etc, but our base is gone, our pals gone, and our characters gone.

I have the save files, and I can see the last time they were modified is when we logged off. But it seems like the game is not reading them?

Have anyone else had this problem?

As it stands now, we are to afraid to start playing again, as the game might once again just reset our progress.

Saw the same thing. I cannot reproduce it no matter how hard i try now.

My server froze up on my NAS, so the docker container was restarted and the world was lost. With no changes and multiple reboots, my world is persisting now. Something went horribly wrong

Same.. sent email to support, but imagine they are backlogged with as many people who are playing

Same issue here. game crashed, we tried reconnecting to the server but got the timeout error. I reloaded the palserver.exe, and when we logged in, i was level 5 (level 21 before) and some are prompted to create a new account.
Hope there is a fix for this.

I've been trying to find ways to resurrect my save file (starting a new local instance, copy over the LevelMeta.sav and Level.sav from my dedicated server. I am going to say the save data is all but lost. I can get it to a point where it will allow me to see my previous map/tech/paldex progress but my character data is basically day 1 randomly saved when I hit level 5. Not sure if the dedicated server is just not saving the LevelMeta and world properly but my local machine is saving my character data, so when the palserver.exe reloads, there is a conflict in the data and loads with half the character data.

So I also had this issue, I was able to fix it by checking the Task Manager and finding the Pal Process was still running even though the server was "Down". After I ended the dead processes and restarted the server the issue was resolved.

For everyone else here, for now, make sure that when you are done playing, if you are the host or whoever the host is, be it self hosted or rented, make sure that you back up the PalServer/Pal/Saved folder entirely. Not just bits, of it. Entirely. This way whenever you restart the server you can just paste the last version the server had before you all decided to log off/close server for the day.

I cant emphasize how often you need to do this, but unless you want to start from scratch every update, I cant emphasize how important this is.

not sure if the save is the problem or just players data the problem in what you're describing but this might help
