Are eggs supposed to take over a dozen hours to hatch?

15 hours seems a bit high for 100% incubation rate.

Somebody on my server apparently found a rare, that's 48
That's pretty ridiculous. That's not really any different from turning the incubation feature off.

I have a rare, it is default 72 hours to hatch at 0% incubation bonus.

It is.... The differences between normal and hard is night and day
I'm playing on an official server and the wait time is 18 hours at a 100% incubation bonus. It's a large damp egg. Seems that time varies.

I set my rented server to have default egg timers as one hour. That way we can hatch 1-3 per session reliably which just feels better. A +100% bonus gets you a 30 minute egg. It doesn't feel too fast and usually we are already out exploring or whatever for 1-2 hours anyways so it lets it be that when we come back to base camp there is an egg waiting!

for servers it makes sense, the timer ticks when you're offline so it'll be ready the next day, if you only play 1-2 hours a day its practically the same thing as the default time in a single player world, a 1 hour timer often leads to only being ready for the next session

but yeah its definitely not balanced for single player/coop, 72hrs on the rarest eggs is pretty much over half a full playthrough, you'll pretty much have to tick down the incubation time for hard mode in solo/coop mode

it's worth noting that the hard mode incubation time is also the default incubation time for servers, so it's pretty clear it was intended to be used in a server setting

I'll also note myself that hard mode seems to be the default for "custom" difficulties,

It actually defaults to whatever difficulty you had selected before clicking custom.

Normal is 2h, Hard is 72h.

Just go custom and changes those absurd grindy gate.

That is VERY weird. You'd think it'd default to normal. Very counterintuitive, and lead to a very bad first experience in my case where I just kept getting beaten up by chickens.

what was the # you used to get it to normal?

I'm playing on hard and it is too hard. Ummm, then don't play on hard?
CT-99 STRIKER Jan 27, 2024 @ 1:17pm
Having a heat/cold source do change the speed of hatching, depending of the egg type. Scorching egg if having plenty of heat nearby can highly reduce the time.

You can make it instant by changing the world settings.

He can still play it on hard, and just turn down that 1 feature. You don't only have 3 settings, you have many more with thousands of combinations.

I don't think I said anything about anything being too hard.

A huge egg will still take a day and a half of playtime at least. That effectively means it'll never hatch on hard.

For a regular egg the temperature difference means it'll hatch in 3 hours instead of 6.
