I struggled to build a staircase lmao

I'm at the starting old castle ruins or whatever and I found this stone staircase that was broken in the back that made it annoying to get back up so I decided to just build my own stairs to "fix" it.

Turns out you can't build stairs UP from a foundation... So I had to go to the top of the stone stairs, place a foundation tile, place a wall tile on the foundation tile, place ROOF tiles on the GROUND based off of that wall tile (because I couldn't place foundation tiles on the edge of the stairs but I could walls) and then place a downwards sloping roof tile off of that to act as stairs, and then I had to repeat this like 1-2 more times to finish the staircase.

Did I miss some obvious building tech or is this legit the only way to do it

Looks pretty good on your ramp to me, but I am by no means able to answer your question (sorry) but I do have a question for you, have you been raided at that location yet? If so how bad?
