Holding down F key to craft?
Am I missing something or doing something wrong? In order to craft you have to hold the F key down? I was cooking a few berries and it took me about ten minutes of holding down the F key to cook 20 plus berries, I literally held the F key down and stared at my screen for ten minutes. That can't be right, is there an auto craft button im missing somewhere?

I'm using a 100g scale calibration weight to hold down the F key.

Stupid UX choice. Add the toggle option.
Pals exist, they press F for you. This is why you automate...

Sometimes the pals just don't work or path properly to the location, even if you lift them and manually throw them at something, sometimes they just _forget_ and go do other things.
know what I see in these forums, how many ignorant children that don't even know what Quality Of Life things are in a video game. No game should make you have to hold down a 'use' button for more than a few seconds, let alone minutes. That isn't fun for anyone, ever, in the history of ever.

I see someone who hasn't played a survival crafting game before. There is meant to be a progression where at first you have to do stuff like hold down f key to craft. But then you keep getting stronger and get better pals that do all the work for you. Its rewarding to go from nothing to powerful.
as many have already said..
get a fire pal. i started with a foxsparks. pop them in your base, lift them up, and throw them at the FRONT of the campfire/cooking pot, they will cook everything for you. I usually have 50-100 eggs done by my Arsox in about 2-4 mins

you can also level up your own workspeed a bit, tho i recommend HP and weight. mostly weight at the start.

as for people complaining about holding F to hatch the egg.. its like 8 seconds.. stop whining

I use a billiard ball to press the F key, it sits nicely pressing the button and the surrounding keys holding the ball. It weighs around 85grams with 42mm size.

The most reliable worker I have is actually the lvl 1 Merchant who turns up as you start your base. The ONLY actual skill it has is Assistance, so if you have it at your Base it will immediately help you craft stuff - it stays there, doesn't wander around and you can just leave it to work alone if you like. Maybe other humanoids act the same, as dedicated workers? I haven't managed to capture another one yet.

Syndicate thugs, for instance; their only skill is Handiwork. They won't necessarily stick with what you want them to prioritize if you have multiple stations with handwork jobs queued up, but at least they're not going to run off to the logging pit or w/e,.

But all the NPCs are particularly resistant to capture for their level, IIRC. For an example of a reasonably availble Pal that by default only has Handiwork, try Loupmoon -- handiwork 2, absolutely no other work suitability .

Honestly, they should change the "keep holding F to craft" to something like "hold F for 3 secs to start crafting" and after that it keeps crafting without the need of holding F.
Use Pals for automation.
it's like complaining why i can't beat fatalis with iron sword and shield, and then a guy came up telling, i beat fatalis using only bombs... joke aside, its a game design choice so that you will optimize your pal's work suitability. i captured few Arsox with artisan to make cakes and i dont even need to pay attention to it. then i breed few lunaris with artisan and lucky, and see crafting bar go brrrrrrrrr... lol... all while i leveling my party pals at dungeons, and having fun while doing all those
