What's the gameplay about?

In addition to building a base, taming animals and making production chains.

Is there the exploration element of other survival games? Are there regions? Points of interest? Quests? Dungeons?

Im on the fence and I really like the base building and taming elements, but I wonder if its mostly a sandbox or there are progression elements in the sense of quests, story, finding and exploring different things you come across etc.

For example, is there also the typical base defense / raids mechanic like in say the purge from conan exiles, or the raids recently added in grounded?

Yes there are raids like in conan. This game matches conan pretty well, just replace thralls with pals. Im having a ton of fun with it so far. I know other people have been experiencing bugs, but thats not my experience at all. Ran smooth the entire time I played.

There is currently a distinct lack of pvp compared to Conan though. Hopefully this gets fixed.
