Thx for answering though, not sure if we will buy the game if that is the case.
[Can I use my single-player character in multiplayer too?]
At the moment, partially yes. Your character is bound to your world and is not shared across servers or single-player.
However, if you are the host of a co-op game then you can switch between single-player or multiplayer freely, but your guests will not be able to do this.
We plan to provide a server/save transfer method later on during development.
Fair but I looked at the reviews and quite a few people reported lags and heavy rubberbanding. I mean playing on release on a server is always extremly laggy cuz devs never provide proper space for everybody.
Seems very questionable to release a multiplayer game, even in EA, that has multiplayer progression this scuffed.
But is there anything that requires the server to run 24/7? Like let's say offline crafting in your base or cooldowns or anything like that? Cuz if not I would just create a server for now with the possibility to get our characters to be able to play solo at a later time. Although I have to say this is still ultra stupid. Doesnt realy look good for the future of the game.
I have no problem playing on a dedicated server, but I understand your frustration. Hopefully they will implement an easier co-op solution in the future for people that don't want to deal with dedicated servers.
Nope, not true. Even the normal LAN SERVER works given the HOST gets to keep the entire data about the characters. Same happens here in Palworld. The HOST is where its at. I doubt it will fail given the dev's ALREADY have plenty exp in terms of MP WITHOUT dedicated ♥♥♥♥ set up.
Just like BG3 or the forest, the host keep the save and the progress, but i think you could run a local dedicated server and turn it off when you want
