Pals wont go on second floor of base
I made a base with most of the workbenches on the second floor and the feed box and some pal beds as well.

they refuse to do anything up there, when i pick them up amd take them to a work spot they simply walk back down the stairs.
They do go up and down the stairs, but they just wont do anything there.

If they can go up and down why cant they work or eat or sleep there ????

It is already difficult enough to get Pals to actually work on the stations you make for them. Trying to actually build a base, and then get them to work inside, and actually stay inside your base, is extremely difficult. Even if you build on an open area and just put a wall around it, they can still glitch through the walls, and be stuck, unable to work on anything, and starve to death.

I recommend using the no clip glitch to travel to the top left of the map, out of bounds where the tree is. It has tons of perfectly flat land in the corner, with no interact-able objects around, and no enemies. Once you place a palbox there you no longer need a glitch to get there. With absolutely 0 distractions for Pal AI it will become easier to build and get your Pals to only work on things within your base.

I must say that the base ive build doesn't experience that much problems anymore, even for shiny or the medium sized pals.
Not dat its perfect all te time but it is most of the time.

And to be honest i dont like using massive pals for work in the base anyway. They are to huge.
I do have some but they are for outside work like watering or planting the crops.
Or grinding and milling. Amd this pals just have a nice bed outside.

If you would like to see how ive build mine, jump on to my server amd take a quick look :) the ip is listed a bit up in the discussion

Thankfully my server makes backups so i could restore it ;) i did lose a few hours of gameplay because of it, but i rather had that then having to build all over again.

I turned raids off, when you get past lvl 40 they are kind of broken and most are un beatable. So its best left off if your love your base 😄

Just hoped there was someone out there that had found a way to make it work.

And i have tried both the roof and the stairs. Its strange to cause they do walk up and down it, they just refuse to work there.

I know its early access so it probably will be fixxed.
Just wanted to know if someone found a way ( i love base building 😜 )

I was able to have them use the second floor of a building by building the walls 2 high and the doorway for them is just 2 empty wall spaces. Forget the doors only smaller pals can use them. My boss penkings have the biggest issue with this. Thinking about breeding them so they are smaller and not boss size.

Question are you using floor or roof as a floor for the second floor.

not sure if it is coded that way... but could be cause of roofs not being acknowledged as flooring... (haven't tried it yet still early ingame and will try it soon but that's the first thing I think of when dealing with problems like that)
There is foundation and roofs, if you want to build a second layer roofs are your only option for a floor at least currently.

The AI seems to have trouble with stairs in general. I'd avoid elevation changes for now

dont put stairs inside wall, as weird as it sounds that make them go to my upper floor assembly lines

I put everything in an open concept.. the AI is horrible.. absolutely horrible with their pathing and overall behavior.. I hope they take a serious look into this especially on dedicated servers.

check out their road map one of the first things on it is improving Pal AI

Best way I've found to get them to use stairs is to put the stairs externally up the side of the building where the stairs meet the floor or an edge foundation. they seem to go up fine. If you put the stairs internally they don't seem to go up. Even if you delete all floors above the stairs and make them 2 wide. Hope they fix but external stairs seem to be ok. Just there is not much space in these dam bases for it.

Roofs are traversable by pals. I have had machines on a roof and my handiwork pals work fine. I did add 2 wide stairs to them.

It actually is a solution I found building the whole base on a foundation is the best way to do it. They do soemthimes go up stairs but its such a pain in the ass. Welcome to EA the game is alpha it works but pathing is on the todo list but cleary on week one of being on steam not finished. I hope they fix it but I am not gonna hold my breath as they got bigger fish to fry for next couple months...

I had a similar problem with my stairs too, so I destroyed them and made sure the stairs were connected to each other and not the walls next to them and that seemed to work. Not sure why, probably something to do with meshing or something like that I imagine. IE: When placing the stairs make sure you are targeting the top edge of the stair it's connecting too, and not the wall next to it. May not be the problem, but could be.

Most of them won´t go through stuff if they are too big, tested this with a big bed in a small house without a door, 2x2 foundation, 1 wall high with a roof. They won´t use the bed because the building/ entrance is not tall/ wide enought. I guess most of the pals need at least 2x2 foundation and 2 walls high build to operate in. Not including general pathfinding issues and the omega alpha state of the game.
MAYBE like

2 Stairs next to each other for the booty with enough space above for the big head, you could build stairs outside of the building leading upstairs. I tried to make my base fit for everybody... well looked like shöt with big holes.
Flat base without walls and stairs without a roof above them seems to be the best option @ the moment.
