Stairs can't be placed?
Trying to place stairs but everywhere I try to put them game thinks is overlapping with something (yes? Overlapping with things like the ground and the foundation? ).

Need them from ground to base foundation due to encumbered won't let you jump so steps up needed (unless you drop what's in bag which is just clunky).

Can only place steps up to top of walls to make stairs up to a second floor.

Just me or are the wooden stairs currently busted?

A bugs or help section wouldn't go amiss, forum is getting lots of posts.

you have to aim up when you place the stairs take it a minute but it works

I'm also having issues placing stairs on foundations

the stair will count 1 block size of clearance even its underground, any tiny object like item drop on the ground can stop it.

Still haven't found how to fix the issue.

I found that building the ceiling piece that it will connect to first makes it easier to build stairs indoors.

Outdoors, I have not had much trouble. Just stand far enough back so that you or another Pal does not overlap with the stair's airspace. It helps to put away the "always out" companion Pals, like collared Daedream, because they tend to want to stand in front of you.

Ive got no pal out or around no item on the ground and its not just the location cause i've tried to build everywhere at this point with the same results. I've already reported it as a bug as on my singleplayer i never had a issue and in this server im the only one with this issue. someone else built the exact thing at the exact location and had no problem .

I had a stair placement problem when I first played. I started another game and found the same issue but out after tinkering that it seems help by looking down the length of a building and placing rather than facing the wall I wanted to place a stair against. I now have a two story structure with multiple doors. Pals use the ramps and run up to craft then head back down (2 ramps because they seem to be very polite and hesitate while another Pal is traversing the door/stair).

It's still far from perfect but seems better having tried different angles of placement.

I noticed looking downward is easier to build stairs

This works for me. Place the roof piece you want to connect yours stairs too then with stairs selected, look at the edge of the roof piece you want to connect the stairs too and for me the stairs snapped to the edge then. Hope it helps

You gotta raise the foundations. If they are too lowered into the ground it doesn't let you put stairs on them for some reason.

I was just about to post this same solution.

I had the same issue on a beach. It seems if you’re at sea level and build the foundation as low as possible, the stairs simply won’t work as a ramp connecting the foundation to the ground. Had the same issue in three locations before figuring it out. Raise the foundation some and it solves the issue.

I kept trying to learn how to make towers with impossible bases and came to the same conclusion.

Also you can stack walls on walls to raise height to cause further shenanigans.

I can put a roof down and use it as stairs but I can't actually put stairs down. Kinda stupid.
After struggling for like 10 minutes straight and getting frustrated, I finally figured it out!
When trying to place stairs next to a foundation connecting to the ground, you need to first add a wall blocking it. Only THEN can you actually see/place stairs there.
