Strange bubbles and colors at the edge of screen

I don't own the game yet, but I've been watching gameplay videos to decide if I want to purchase it.

One thing I find quite annoying is the strange moving bubbles and colors at the edge of the screen.

I understand they indicate how close the player is to the monster, but I wonder if there’s a better way to achieve this.

Is there an option to turn them off in the graphics settings?

By the way, I also noticed that this game seems to draw inspiration from Alien: Isolation, which is definitely a good thing!

That's exactly the point which is extremely annoying, like melting film material in a scene of the movie Planet Terror. Unfortanely there isn't an off / on function. But if you don't focus too much on it, the game is a great experience.
