Quality > Quantity
I hope you realize that people like you are what cause devs to dilute otherwise flawless pacing games. Devs will never add more bang for your buck content just because YOU want a 40 hour game. That isn't financially feasible. They'll just add unskippable cutscenes or mandatory walking talking segments or having the player mash a button while the character flops around on the floor like Manu Ginobili or jack up a boss difficulty. Hellblade 2 is a good example of this. SWtD feels longer than Hellblade 2 because devs didn't include all those artificial speedbumps that Hellblade 2 devs did that waste your time and jack up the final game length counter.
You're fine. It's their problem. For the money I want at least 20 to 30 hrs of game play. More is OK as well. Love Ubisoft games Origin and Black Flag. Let them eat cake.
The average game length was always around 8-10 hours and this was with speedrunners trying to finish it as fast as possible just so they could complain. Even games that came out 10-20 years ago. IDK where you got 5 hours for 50-70 dollars when SWtD is pretty much half the price of an average game at ~6 hours in length. That's a very fair price. Like I said it's pointless to dilute the content and be doing the same repetitive tasks over and over again. You want the your audience wanting more at the end of the game, not less. Also apply the same logic to movies or music - nobody goes "wow Terminator 2 is a bad movie because it's not 5 hours long" or "I won't listen to Led Zeppelin - Immigrant Song because it's only 2 minutes long." Wtf is up with that logic?
QUALITY > QUANTITY
Most speedrunners I've met play the game casually first, they dinna dive straight into speedrunning and certainly nae they could complain
No shortcuts
No alternate routes
No secrets
No traversal mechanics.
No way to shorten your time. This is an interactive film...not a game.
Not WR speedrunning pace but nonstop running from Point A -> Z while skipping everything in between like dialogue, side quests or immersing yourself in the atmosphere.
It is an interactive film but not every game has to have the same side quests or Souls shortcuts. SWtD has achievement hunting, collectibles (body discovery, magazines) and beating the game in Scottish Gaelic. It doesn't sound like much but there is stuff to do and experience outside of the "one path only." Not to mention it's half price for a 6 hour game. You telling me a $70 12 hour game is short? That's way better value than $30 2 hour bluray movie or a $20 30 minute music album. It might seem like a foreign concept to you but some people do multiple playthroughs once they beat the game.
Once again, quality > quantity. I don't want walking talking cutscenes to dilute the flow or pacing of the game.
