DLSS not available with an rtx compatible card
I'm playing the Gamepass version so i cannot speak on behalf of the steam copy but for me I am unable to access dlss, fsr3 or xess which should all be supported with my hardware from my understanding.

I only have available UE taau and UE tsr to choose from.

I have an rtx 3090 on driver version 552.44 and my os is windows 10 pro 22H2

Anyone else having similar issues with the gamepass version or here on steam?

Yes. If you don't want a dumbed down version, buy it instead of renting it. This has happened to a lot of other games in the past. If anything you should be blaming Microsoft for allowing this to happen.

Is there a visual comparison between the two versions?

My understanding now is that the Gamepass version offers FSR and the Steam has both FSR and DLSS.

Visually i'll be honest.... gamepass looks fine to me now i've set it up properly. I've watched some playthroughs but it never says what versions. But my game looks visually on par with whatever they are playing.

SO when you say its a dumbed down version - other than missing DLSS which will only benefit RTX users - what specifically are the other things that are dumbed down.
Couldn't get it running smooth at all on GP, got it elsewhere and DLSS/DLAA with frame Gen it runs perfectly. I think the price of GP is a decent deal, but the way some of the games(like this one) are released is less than ideal.

FSR is not available on PC Game Pass, not sure about the console version (which is how I've decided to play this game for now) as it doesn't list the upscaler used in the options, just quality mode or performance mode.

FSR IS available on the Game-pass version for PC.
Its one of the two options.

You can put that down to some developers taking advantage of Xbox's generous policy of allowing the developer to use whatever upscalers they choose, so instead of using the same upscalers as on Steam they do the minimum amount of effort to put the game on PC Game Pass.

It literally isn't, I just reinstalled it on my PC to see if there was an update after reading your post.

The two options you speak of are UE TSR and UE TAAU.

Neither of those are FSR, they're both Unreal Engine upscalers.

Had this as my most looked forward to game for a bit. I always followed Chinese room after I fell in love with a few of their games. Saw was day one Xbox game pass, why wouldn't I play it there. Well turns out it's an inferior version that literally runs at a third of the fps for me. Thanks to no dlss or fsr.

Yes that's right, thanks to the situation the devs put us in, we are faced with the choice of game pass with a third of the fps, or spending 35 dollars on a game I technically already own just to be playable.

I'd love to see others fps differences from game pass to non gimped versions.

I went from 4k ultra 42fps to 4k ultra 120fps.

I also went the swash buckling route and refuse to give the devs any money until this fiasco is fixed. Shame I tried to play the game, spent money, and couldn't even play it as it didn't support things clearly stated as supported two inches beside the option.
What is gaming in 2024. No one cares anymore. Did they even try to see how this game ran without upscaling? It sucks.

I've always suspected Xbox app/Windows store versions of games were a frankenstein version of the Xbox console ports. However the devs excuse comes across as BS as other day 1 game pass titles have had DLSS/FSR/XESS and on proprietary engines as well. This game is Unreal Engine 5 and all these options are a tick box. There should be a way for the game to recognize when it's using PC Game Pass/Windows SDK or Xbox console SDK and change available settings accordingly without requiring some crazy custom coding solution. If there currently isn't a simple way then yeah the devs should put that work in to have parity with "other" PC versions on launch while also communicating with Microsoft/Xbox that they need to resolve this on their end to have such parity with other PC store fronts including native support for non Xbox controllers. Also for all devs using UE 5 please for the love of PC gaming include an option to enable hardware Lumen/ray tracing.

Hey everyone!

Really sorry about being so silent on this. Please see a new update from us at Secret Mode and The Chinese Room.

Thank you all for the overwhelming support at the launch of Still Wakes the Deep. As we take some time to read through everyone's feedback, we wanted to share an update on our current performance and features roadmap.

We are hard at work on our first global patch across all formats, which will be entering platform certification next week and will be available in July.

This will address some of the reported issues including:
crash/performance bugs
settings reverting to default status
deactivated subtitles reappearing
on-screen button prompt visibility
the Mud Handling progression bug
missing DLSS support for PC Game Pass (more below)
This patch will also introduce a Yellow Marker toggle, which enables players to deactivate navigation aids in the form of yellow paint spills.

And to our PC Game Pass players: we recognise that our current launch build does not support some of the features you expected.

The Chinese Room and Secret Mode are hearing you and working to rectify this issue as our highest priority. DLSS implementation is in progress, and will be rolled out in July as part of the patch above.

We are additionally investigating the possibility of FSR3 support. At this point in time we are unable to commit to FSR3 implementation, but will share more on this aspect after our investigation is complete.

On Steam we support FSR3, DLSS, XeSS and Unreal Engine Temporal Super Resolution (TSR).

And on Epic Online Store we also support the same as Steam.

That's a terrible response. Stating a fact that gamepass users can see and experience themselves in the first place, not explaining the reasons or plan for updates. Total BS. So are GP users just supposed to deal with it? Call Phil Spencer gamepass support line?

You have actually left the descriptions of all other upscaling tech in the menu.

If your game is not complete then why have you released it?

That's nice but DLSS does nothing for people on non Nvidia cards. Also in your menus on the inferior Game pass version, you show a description for DLSS, FSR, and XESS even though those options are not present. It shows a lack of due diligence to not remove descriptions for things not actually present. In your announcement you say nothing about XESS even though that's one of the listed upscaling techniques. Honestly you justify people sailing the high seas.

I would rather they not release this ♥♥♥♥ on Game Pass at all than play shady games like this. Nobody would have even noticed. But instead they release it using an outdated build with features literally taken out to incentivize purchasing outright somewhere else to have a decent experience. The Game Pass version has horrible performance and stuttering with all settings on low. I have a 4070ti build and get an 80fps stuttery mess. This tells me they do not respect the players time at all. Just dont release it on Game Pass if you are not gonna release an honest experience to everyone...

Even once they do patch it on GP, it could take microsoft days or weeks to verify it and whatever else they might do. Atomic heart had a game breaking bug a while back. On steam it was fixed in days, on GP it took a week or two. Then there is Palworld on GP, which was a much earlier version than steam, it did not even have an exit game button, iirc... GP definitely has issues.

DLSS/fsr would be nice but I got it running pretty well by turning lighting to high, which I assume disables the lumen aspect.

It very much sounds like this is a Microsoft / Gamepass issue and not developers.

It's both. Microsoft can incentivise feature parity and devs can take the time to develop feature parity.
