I also found full screen windowed mode ran better than full screen. This may be different depending on your own gpu or driver. Other than that, turning lighting down seem to make the most difference to fps, and then shadows. I prefer using the more efficient upscalers as they keep the system cooler. I'll monitor cpu gpu and ssd temps in game with afterburner and librehardwaremonitor, and keep the gpu fan quite high with fancontrol
ps most people tend to prefer dlss for a balance of image quality and performance,but that's only for nvidia cards.
I'd rather that upscalers weren't necessary at all. There should always be an option to turn them off for the best image quality. I think in STWD you need to set the upscaler quality to ultra, or 3d resolution to 100 percent, but you will definitely lose performance and used up more power that way.
