It was a great game, but if jump scares and being chased bother you, I strongly advise you do just watch some play-throughs of it or grab it on sale. I have clinically diagnosed PTSD and being chased, in games and in real life, are triggers for me but I ended up getting it after being promised that there were only "2-3 chase scenes that can easily be avoided if you sneak well enough" and, being a great sneak in games, I figured I'd be safe. There are not 2-3 chase scenes. There are at least ten sneak events where there is a high chance of you being caught regardless of how well you sneak. There are several (at least three) incidents where a jump scare turns into you being grabbed and then having to break free and run. There are at least two events where you have to run through a door to shut it between you and the enemy or it'll keep coming.
It is a fun game, but if you genuinely fear being chased, jump scares, and not being able to fight back, I'd maybe wait on it over spending full price for a game you can't play. I almost threw the controller and quit when I reached the eight chase scene in a row and then had several, smaller, back to back events one directly after the other toward the end.
Really appreciated this comment. I'm one of those folks who doesn't enjoy chasing/hiding sequences mostly due to the anxiety of it all. Having now gotten through a chunk of the game and experienced a bit of this, I was wondering how much I would have to "look forward to" for the rest of the game without outright spoiling what, I think, is a great story. This comment gave a bit of peace, and now I can be a bit more prepared.
If I know the scares are coming, even only in a vague sense, then it is a lot more manageable from an anxiety perspective. Thank you.
Absolutely! I loved the game so much. It definitely caused some panic after the moments, but I was able to finish it (albeit while screaming and begging it to end soon lmao) and absolutely loved the story.
