Story mode
Ladies and gents, anyone tried to play with the Story mode? How does it change the game? Does it just delete all the monsters, or changes their behavior?
I played SOMA with the similar setting on and it severely toned down the aggressiveness of monsters and nothing else, which is good imo. (For me).

I’m trying to decide how do I want to play this game.
I don’t do well with horrors where I can just run and hide. I need a gun.

I think it's the same as Soma, monsters roam but they can't see you, or maybe only if really really close. I'm not absolutely sure as I changed difficulty while playing, there was no error message so I presume it worked but some games are tricky in certain aspects.

Can confirm that it's SOMA-like. Monster aggressiveness is toned down, but you do not lose any content. Maybe they are a bit slower in chase sequences, didn't have a chance to compare. Also you probably don't die as quickly from other hazards, not sure, but feels like it. Solid game mode to play in if anyone is as stressed as I am in horrors without weapons.

Oh there's a story mode ? I may buy it then. I played Soma so I could do that one too instead of just watching a playthrough because I'm a chicken :vega:

It does! I’m in the same boat as you are, these games really scare me and are hard to beat for me. But I finished this one with the story mode, it’s really good.

I honestly didn't notice a difference between Standard and Story Mode.

There are the same amount of chase scenes, sneak events, dodging events, and whatnot. I'm not sure if Story Mode was actually supposed to be easier, but it was so marginally that I didn't notice when I accidentally reset it to Standard Mode when I dropped my controller.

The monsters are still 100% present and they will still immediately chase if they see you. I didn't notice much of a difference between the AI, either; both during Story Mode and after I activated Standard, if I wasn't careful, they immediately saw me. And when you throw something too many times as a distraction, they do start noticing where it's coming from if you don't move around. So the AI doesn't lose intelligence, it didn't feel like, either.

Hmm. When I set it to Story Mode, the monsters became almost too easy to avoid. Generally speaking, you could stand in the middle of the room as the monster does its patrol, and it'll only kill you if you specifically stand in its way as it patrols. Otherwise, seeing you doesn't actually have it give chase. What might have seemed like it chasing you was likely the scripted sections, where once you get close to the objective you're supposed to activate "fix the fuse box" or "run towards the lift" is when the monster is immediately scripted to dart towards you.

But I didn't see it going out of its way this time to attack me if it saw me. I tested this with Trots, purposefully walking in around in front of him to see if he would attack, and he didn't. He only killed me because he proceeded to move around and continue his patrol, and I just happened to be in the way. Chase sequences though will still happen. Story mode doesn't seem to affect those.

I am playing Standard mode and come across lockers from time to time. The game mentioned you will need to hide in the lockers to avoid the monster. Here is the thing, I have never run across the monster whenever there are lockers present. I am 2 hours in and never had to use the lockers once. Am I missing something. Will I backtrack to these areas?
