Best (fastest) way to find boulder?

I assume it's to dig in a straight line then go a few tiles and repeat... but how many spaces between lines? (Or is there a better way?)

Just play the game. Unless you're doing some really weird ♥♥♥♥, you'll find more than enough of them through normal gameplay to not need to go looking for any.

I have found LOTS of boulders, but no tin. All I need is a tin boulder and so I figured I'd start strip mining near the core, but I don't want to do it randomly like I have been. I am just curious what the absolute most optimal way to do this is.

This may just be bias speaking, but in my experience specific types of boulders are always more plentiful where their type of ore is naturally found. So if you're looking for a tin boulder you'll want to be exploring The Clay Caves.

I don't know if that's true but, regardless, the clay caves are "near the core" so...

In the current world I'm playing (a new one I just started) ... Boulders seem pretty common (much more common than I saw in some of the oldest worlds I've got). I've seen tons of Copper and Iron. Only found one Tin so far though, but yes, it was in/near the Clay Caves.

i've found a few tin boulders mostly in the clay caves, also found 1 in the stone biome but i think that was just RNG.

tin seems rarer than the other ones at least to me, lots of gold and scarlet boulders sitting around in their respective biomes.
