Even going back after and trying some more, the droprate isn't that rare and feels consistent
The drop chance for an item increases from the base percentage after you've had that item in your inventory once. Hence why you've been finding more of them since encountering them. The wiki page for some of the Shimmering Frontier content is not as accurate as you'd think since it just came out and I wouldn't trust the 2.5% chance written there. It's possible that number is higher or lower but sufficient information has not yet been provided or tested by the community.
I will say, some of us have not been so lucky with our finds and chance does play a role in these things. You do seem to just be getting lucky here. I have one ninja hood and about 10 of the other two pieces after playing around 5+ hours per day since the update dropped.
All this being said, you're entitled to your opinion, of course. 😊
In my opinion, it's fine as it is. The nillipedes aren't too easy to fight for lower-powered players and if they do get lucky in finding that stuff quickly, more power to them. They probably earned it. For more experienced players with lots of different armor options, the max health and armor boosts are fantastic but the other stuff is only good if you're trying to do a critical hit build. The cosmos set is just as easy to find (with luck) and far superior for most explorers.
If anything, I'd appreciate it if the devs reconsidered the ridiculously low drop rates of things that have no business being as rare as they are (a towel isn't a great piece of armor but can only be found in seashell or locked octarine chests....with a 0.2% drop rate if unseen and 0.9% if you've seen it before. Why?!)
I wonder how you will feel if I tell you that I got the ninja set a little after opening the wall by:
1) Getting the Larva Chest from the Devourer (+28 mining)
2) Getting a little scarlet and making a scarlet workbench, fishing rod (169 fishing).
3) Fishing in Azeos Wilderness border, surrounded by walls, until I found 2 Sea Foam rings (+51 each), meeting the 260 fishing for Shimmering Water, in the process getting a ton of scarlet ore.
4) Made a Orb Lantern (9% mining).
5) Rushed the Sunken Sea dodging all enemies to collect a bucket of sea water.
6) Fished in sea water, safely in my base, until I upgraded everything to octarine (workbench, fishing rod, pickaxe - 417 mining)
7) Reinforced the pickaxe (479 mining).
8) Keep fishing until I got a rusted necklace (19% mining) and 2 topaz rings (23% mining each).
9) All together reaches 836 mining, enough to clear the 630 mining for crystal blocks.
10) Rushed the shimmering frontier by making a land bridge of dirt.
11) Got a bucket of shimmering water.
12) Fished safely in my base until I had a full set of Ninja gear.
It took me two days to do all this.
I used the Ninja set to make a dodge build. The cap is 90%. The game becomes really easy with 90% dodge. You can even dodge stuff like fire and ground poison.
i got a whole set of that stuff before i even fought the desert titan
Did you actually get the leggings from fishing?
Swear I've gotten 10+ pieces but still no leggings!
Was thinking the wiki may be wrong.
yeah iv had all the pieces multiple times. the headpiece was the one that didnt want to drop for me i seem to get leggings more than any other piece
Well, the set itself is fine at the biome. It's pre-final zone for now anyway... If you think it's fast, simple because the game don't force you to go one-by-one biome step and you can skip to the end, a freedom to explore... I do still prefer slightly restriction like hp slowly drain etc. if you still don't beat the previous biome boss or thing like that.
Edit -> wat wrong with my typo _oTL
Never reply so early morning...
