Basic drill automation

How do you automatically put mined ores into chests before Scarlet ore. And if not possible to automate, why even exist at all?

drills spit ores out behind them.
Use conveyor => blank tile => crane => storage. Bonus points if the storage is a furnace, they smelt roughly as fast as the mining goes.

i am aware, however the crane requires scarlet, the crude drill seemingly has no way to not clutter the world space with item drops, and by the time you get scarlet you have better drills

Items don't despawn so just set up the drills and collect the ore when you need it.
