Egg wont incubate

Incubator is powered. I've already hatched a few eggs so I know it ought to work but now its not. The egg is in there long enough, yet when I come back the cracked egg is greyed out when it ought to be finished. Problem happened on my own single player world as well as a friend's multiplayer hosted world.

take the egg, put it in your 1-9 hot bar, and use it from there.

Cant take it, its grayed out. I take the un-cracked egg out of the incubator and put it back in and it does nothing. I've gotten 3 pets successfully already so I know how to do it. This is a bug
