After hit tab. You pretty going to move hover your computer mouse on crafting menu on any item looking things. You will see what you need to make these stuff. Its like a little guesting game.
Explore, survive. Make gear and grow food that'll help you.
In the beginning, you've got nothing but some wood scraps (which you can get by hitting the roots). With those, you can make torches, and a basic workbench. The world is huge, with lots of resources, lots of enemies (that respawn) and a fair number of bosses.
And there's the Core, and the three statues ... might want to check on those too.
Regardless, it's intentionally a genre of game that doesn't offer a lot of initial handholding. Survival games tend to be like that.
- make a torch to see the world
- in the first biome(s) you can actually mine blocks using the torch
- explore the world,
- collect wood, copper, tin, iron for better tools, weapons and armor,
- make lots of chests to store all the stuff you find
- learn how to grow food, to fish and to cook
- find the Great Wall
- find out how to overcome the Great Wall
- explore the world outside
There is a wiki if you look for more details but it might be overwhelming for new players :

I would recommend to watch some of the Beginners Tips videos on youtube and experiment on your own ... this is a sandbox game. Unless you delete/sell items you don't loose stuff. If your character dies he/she restarts at the Core (or at an assigned bed) .
Your character cannot starve but fights less efficient if hungry and gets a bonus if full.
...
This is pretty helpful, so thank you!
I play a lot of survival games, but most of them at least have some general tips or tutorial or guide to get you started, so I was very confused when this one didn't because I've felt so lost.
Thank you!
