if you have the patience, you could isolate the snail on an island, and then isolate another enemy on another small island on the other side of it. i havent tested it but that would be my first idea
the snails are good for getting endless ore they are valuable resource that doesn't re-spawn.
Sorry to tell you this but:

"Combat-related skill points should no longer be gained when no damage was dealt from attacks or explosives."

I'd honestly recommend using a Shrooman Brute (the big rocky mushroom fellow).

I was fortunate enough to have one drop its Figurine, which I've since got set up in a fenced off Materializer and use that for working on both Magic and Summoning EXP.
I second this - can trap one early game and use it as a punching bag (just make sure to let it regenerate it's health at some point), late game... you can do the figurine method instead.

Just keep in mind that the shrooman brutes do not resist explosive damage, so it's better to farm that elsewhere. The snail works, but I'm nowhere near that point in my own game yet (started fresh) so I decided to level it while also farming Magulaz for his Oracle Deck material.

Turns out... his fire wall hazards are kind of allergic to the hand mortars splash damage, and the walls of his arena are indestructible so you don't have to really worry about missing and blowing up something important in the distance. Would honestly recommend giving it a try

The best "spot" I found for farming explosive skill points is the track Ghorm the Devourer goes around before you kill him.

The slime there creates constant foes, with more added by the stone and clay biome cavelings and larva trying to kill the slimes.

There is also usually 2 nearby teleporters, (Ghorm's and Magualz's), so grab a hand mortar or scarab mortar, throw on a gear set that helps with explosives, and go around the loop, shooting things until your gun breaks, teleport back to base, fix the gun, repeat.

Shooting mortars counts as explosive skill, and is faster and easier than bombs or grenades. Just make sure not to kill yourself in the blast radius, they can do friendly fire.

I would recommend Hive Mother for leveling Explosives:

Dig out a gap as close to her spawn/arena as it will allow you all around her so her larva can't get to you. Set up a rotating conveyor belt so that not only are you being moved to avoid her falling acid shots, but the belts prevent the acid from pooling on the ground, eliminating another hazard.

Make sure either your gap is wide enough or your belt setup is far enough away, so that when your explosives detonate against her spawns as they bunch up trying to reach you, the explosion radius doesn't hit either yourself or your belts.
See i don't trust myself to do the conveyor stuff right to begin with... and I prefer more proactive methods (like I said... I was training it while also farming the "Entity" card for the Oracle Deck)
