the other ones seem better balanced now, maybe except range and melee taking a bit too long to level, but fishing is awful
literally go out with hundreds of bait to use, and ill get 5 levels if im lucky
You are not alone.
Luers seem to be consumed every fish, the only bait that's actually useful is the glowing bait, due to the junk being more useful than the fish.
It's a RHYTHM game folks. Long and short pulls, long and short rests.
No harder then doing fish techs on Breath of Fire 3.
Every fish has a pattern, just learn it and do it.
If you can't be bothered to do THAT, just pull only on long rests.
Fishing in breath of fire is infinitely better than this, there you actually fight the fish you dont memorize a pattern.
Here all the fish have a pattern of stop and run and it's way too fast, and you're holding the button they won't even budge and the timer for run even increases it's complete hogwash.
I've doing the fishing in one piece unlimited world red and that's a true rhythm because you have to match keys a bit like guitar hero and it works it's quite a fun game and you don't get angry when a fish escaped because it doesn't feel like a cheap fight.
Ofc fishing over there is also required for some buildings and upgrades which makes it more valuable. Upgrading a rod there makes a world of a difference making it much easier to catch small fish and allowing you fish behemoths with 90 meters in one go. They also have an interesting system, if you keep fishing in the same spot, the fish than ran away will eventually bite again, which can be useful for some of the hardest ones.
Careful, you don't want to go chasing or raising straw men.
But yes, of course you "can't just hold the button" that's like trying to win DDR by only ever holding "up".
It's a rhythem game, each fish has a pattern, enter it, and win.
I know what you mean by "match the keys" but this is an easier, a SIMPLER, the simplest possible rhythem game. You either can click, or not click. It has ONE BUTTON. The "bad time" is when the fish wiggles.
You don't need to do 10 things at the right time, you just need to do one, one VERY simple thing, at the right time.
You're wrong, BoF has nothing to do with rhythm, the fish reacts to your input, it's not a loop. Rods also determine how easy it is to get fish, so upgrades are meaningful.
This is literally the worst fishing mini game I've seen on a mgae, together with 9th dawn 3, which has the same lazy nonsense mechanics.
No that's wrong, the BOF3 is great, actually resembles real fishing not like the trash in this game.
Check it out if you don't remember it:

This is how you make a good fishing game.
If they wanted something simple they should have just copy pasted terraria not make the janky mess they did
Did you see it, 0:27 "tec +1" you ONLY get that by playing the rhythem game
by entering the tug inputs in the right patterns in time with the rhythem of the area.
And that's what the mini game is here.
You tug on the down. Fish wiggles on the up. Long or short. One button, just press it at the right time.
The simplest possible rhythem game.
The absolute PERFECT core of what a rhythem game can be.
And what do you want to do, mess it up with multiple buttons? Make it harder? No. It's perfectly simple.
Just have to remember, it's not a fishing simulator, it's a rhythem game, and treat it approprately.

Check the comments, one of them points out that the beat of the region is exactly 158, set a metronome, you get it perfect.
The big difference is one is fun and the other isn't. One gives you plenty of time to react the other doesn't and is frustrating. In BoF better rods also make it easier to fish, unlike this game by giving you more power and a more resistant line.
So it's also very simple to learn, and simple to get better at.
Well, usually, for most people.
Mostly it's just being willing to put in the work.
To notice when the wiggles are, and learn the rhythem for each fish.
It's a series of short pauses, long pauses (those are when you pull) and short wiggles and long wiggles (those are when you don't pull).
Some of the fish even just copy patterns you know from other fish, so learning them all isn't even that bad. Still, all you really have to do is know the pattern for the fish you want. Ignore all others.
Is there even a single fish you actually want?
There isn't for me, everything I want is from the junk list. ALL the best items are instantly caught. Don't require the mini game part at all.
