Why using bridge when we have blocks?
If you can place blocks to cross water and chasms, what use are bridges? At first I thought you could drive a boat under the bridge, but that's not possible either, so what's the point of bridges if they have the same function as simple blocks?

Blocks didn't always have the same function from what I've understood of the before 1.0 times.

Then there's also the fact you can craft bridges from different materials. Use them for aesthetic reasons etc.

You can place bridges faster and without "double stacking" accidents that create walls that will get in your way and slow you down.

And wood bridges are cheap to make once you get a farm going. You'll likely want several thousand of them for the ocean biome (if you were too lazy to craft a boat) and/or the final biome (mining walls takes too long).

Before 1.0 you could only dig up the ground (making a hole) and putting that down else where. There was no way to craft a "ground" tile, so you had to cover holes with bridges then cover it with flooring if you wanted to make it look nice. Now the walls and ground tiles are merged into a single block that's why bridges seem obsolete.

Bridges let water through and are more efficient to place. That's the difference.

Aesthetic, faster to place, faster to dig up, easy to craft in large amounts once you get wood farms going, crafting them increases your crafting skill

Blocks are a limited resource, always. (You can't craft them, only 1:1 them)

Bridges are an unlimited resource. (Grow wood, craft bridges, place)
