Can you make DoT builds?

I love it when i can make poison or similar DoT builds. Is it possible to make them here and are they viable?

I believe if you do a lot of gardening there's a damage over time, with poison, that you can apply to your attacks. However I am also a beginner so that's the only thing I've seen, oh and fire. You can set things on fire which is also a DoT.

Poison just reduces healing by 75% (and can combo with things). For dots there is burn, but that does not scale with anything (and does not stack) and is super slow and hardly does anything after early game. Characters can do thousands of DPS with attacks, while the dot does like 200 every 2 seconds. There is 1 combo item, but that only turns the dot into instant damage.

There are some things that do persistent damage in some way, but not really like a DOT put on enemies. Core Keeper does not have the most varied combat you might expect from looking at it... at least not on player side. Enemies are rather interesting
