Hive Mother
As an OG that has been here since release of Early Access, devs may want to tune down the Hive Mother a tad. Managed to beat her on Hard as a summoner but good lord the number of adds made that a pain. Of course prepping the arena is basically a requirement for this one as well. Just tuning down the spawn rate or the health of the cocoons if nothing else would help.

I always use multi-target attacks to deal with the adds; a ranged weapon with piercing or a melee weapon with an AoE swing will take them out no problem. Explosives would work too, I guess, but I'd be afraid of blowing myself up.

My typical strategy for a first-time fight with Hive Mother is to eat something cooked with a green blister head, then run circles around her with a tin axe. No arena prep needed, and the wide swing radius on the axe catches the adds without ever needing to stop attacking Hive Mother. Easy-peasy.

Edit: Though I can see how it'd be a fair bit more difficult if you wanted to do that fight using magic or summoning weapons specifically, since neither category offers much in the way of piercing or AoE.

As a mage I made a trench and spammed fire rod but yeah the spawns were a bit too much made the fight longer than it should

It's an optional boss, so i think it should be harder.

killed her 5 times in hardmode with club from ghorm statue. Break eggs at 1st phase, faceroll her at 2nd phase, run away from red adds, shoot golden adds with grubzooka. Not difficult at all

can you still create a funny little trench outside of her range and just cheese her with piercing ranged attacks?

On the way to this boss, there are spike traps. Collect them all, then go near the boss and see from what distance the boss becomes active. Take a shovel and dig two holes: one for the enemies coming from the boss to you, and one for the enemies that occasionally attack you from behind. But before you do that, place spike traps there so the enemies take additional damage. Modify the ground so that the boss’s poison doesn’t stay on it; for example, you can change the ground to wooden flooring. Once everything is set up, you should be able to snipe the boss from your safe position. The only thing you need to do is dodge the poison spit
