Are they really making us farm 40 of them to find the boss? Why did the game just get ultra grindy to get these for the boss scanner?

the map isnt that big anymore, good chance to find it while tryn to farm the scarabs ;D

They are fairly rare, they seem to be more frequent out in the outskirts of the desert, red blobs on the ground, dont think i got one to drop from a scarab iself. I

found the boss when i collected about 10, and next to that boss was the other boss.

I believe this big amount was made to encourage you explore the desert since it has a lot of stuff to uncover. Unfortunately it seems like you can only find them lying on the ground and iirc in EA you could get them from scarabs and dig spots as well, but not anymore.

Yeah, these things take forever to find. You need way too many of them IMHO, and unlike a lot of the other boss scanners, you can't just vacuum something up off the floor (slime) to get a 'workaround' of sorts to collecting the main item.

Also, the desert is positively huge, and unlike hunting the previous boss Omoroth, you can't even attack while using your vehicle (you could in the boat), thus making travel just plain hazardous.

yeah I found the boss way before I got even close to having enough of these

They also drop from enemies. You have to kill them though, they dont drop anything if they blow up.
