If you're looking for a quick way to level crafting to max, farm tree roots and spam craft torches.
Once you're able to craft a copper hoe, use it to uproot plants on and off your farm as it can harvest 4 plots at a time, this makes farming a bit less of a click fest.

You can skip the scarlet and octarine tiers almost entirely. After beating the first three bosses, craft a scarlet pickaxe and mine just enough octarine to make the workbench and forge. Then skip straight to the desert to mine galactite. The reason to do this is that both the jungle and ocean biomes are waaay more difficult than the desert, which is easily navigated with almost no enemies. Coming back to the other two biomes with galactite equipment helps a bunch.

For fishing, the first gears you'll want to fish out is 2 goldfish ring, speeding the fishing process by 26%.

You fish those in the ruins, where there cavelings and the drop rate isn't that bad.

Get it and all your fishing session will be very fast.

make use of your 3 gear sets, e.g.; one for fighting, one for mining, one for running (use hotkeys to switch)
use the map markers to pin POIs like ore boulders, bosses
addition to already listed, always go for the highest tier hoe, very usefull to collect/clear stuff of the ground
