Hard mode is NOT good.
A couple observations from hard mode.

- Focusing on dealing damage is way too powerful.
- Upgrading early gear, like the copper necklace and gold crystal rings quickly lets you get stupid ranged damage.
- Magic and ranged in general seems to be far easier to quickly deal damage with due to how slow most melee weapons are, as well as lacking proper skills to increase the damage.

- Tank builds and melee builds are way too weak.
- Terraria hard mode has this thing where armor is better in master mode. This is done so that you don't just go for the easy solution, which is to focus on dodging or dealing damage.
- Dodge is kinda just better. If an enemy deals 400 damage and you reduce it by 150, you're still hit for 250. That's 2-3 hits to die from full health in the mid - late game. Maxing out dodge for 90% dodge lets you survive for an average of 15 hits instead. Either don't wear armor and deal damage instead, or max out dodge to have a semblance of tanking.

In the end I'm just rapidly killing bosses. General combat is boring, as you either just oneshot enemies, or let your guard slip and get one-two shot by just about anything that exists past the wall.

Suggestions to remedy some of these issues.
- Armor either needs to have far higher values, or give some kind of percentage based reduction on top of the flat reduction, like how terraria armor is % based.
- Melee weapons could do with a little more reach so it isn't suicide to try and melee anything ranged. Once again, since the game is trying to be terraria in a way, many melee weapons have high reach or ranged components in terraria.
- Properly differentiate melee armor sets and make them beefier? Like, some of the tankiest armors have bonuses that work just as well for ranged as it does for melee. Melee characters should be rewarded for pursuing tankiness.
- Nerf dodge to compensate for better armor?
- Better health scaling for non armor armors? They're going to be kinda useless otherwise, if they give neither damage, nor armor. 50 extra hp when it's not even letting you take another hit is questionable. This doesn't mean mage armor needs to (much) be better. The high barrier already helps you mitigate being instakilled.

I agree with a lot of what you said. I also think hard mode is not balanced well and mostly leads to frustrating moments where I felt like I had no influence on the outcome of what happened.

I would suggest another solution aswell: Harder difficulty doesn't necessarily have to mean more damage taken and enemies have more HP. You could also make enemies more aggressive, or spawn more of them in certain places. If enemies aren't that dangerous on their own, create situations where players are outnumbered and have to play smart.
Although this wouldn't solve all issues, but it's another approach to making hard mode more fun.

Not to mention extra attacks, like how in terraria master mode bosses get extra phases or attacks.

armor is overall useless so yes i think it needs change.
but its little unfair to compare melee to terraria.
yeah i agree they need to balance it,

but terraria melee are weapons that are litterally range attacks most of the time

overall i agree to you. playing melee on hard worlds feels like selfmade challenge/nerf if you know the other weapons.
risk reward balance is bad.

yeah hardmode dosent feel super great just play ranged and use a dodge build and nuke everything dont bother with melee

Hard mode definitely favors insane glass cannon builds.

Not quite. Terraria master mode is pretty much all I play, and you only get doubled armor but the mobs are doing triple the damage, so effectively 2/3 the damage reduction you would have on regular difficulty.

Dodge or die fast.
no idea what you are talking about. he was correct.
in terraria
if you suffer 40 damage with 20 armor on classic you take 30 damage
if you suffer 40 damage with 20 armor on master you take 20 damage

armor has alot more value on master.
a little more armor is huge in master.
yes you dodge alot in master but if you play with 80 armor or play with 40 armor and get hit makes a big difference if a enemie hits for 100 damage.

yes sure the enemies do tripple damage, but that doesnt matter. that was not the point.
it was just about specific damage reduction on specific damage.
if you compare it to corekeeper, i dont get how you can disagree.
oh btw i only play hardcore on master. wowie no idea what the point was to mention it.

hardmode needs a bost and alot of weapons need a nerf if i can kill boss under 10 seckonds then its not a hard mode. only thing is that bos can kill me on 1-4 hitss and thats not enough. last boss is a joke he needs more attack patterns and faster movement speed as for now it just meh
