Regarding the crafting issue, a large chest can stack 9 crafting stations around it (as you need 1 tile to access the chest) so you can create a nice crafting hub.
I am lazy myself so i would love to have a build in automatic storage system, but until that will be added (maybe), there are automated sorting options available (chests, drills, robot arms, just look it up at youtube).
I also don't get why making the next tier of crafting table doesn't just upgrade the one you're at instead of you needing to break and toss the old one to place the new one in it's place.
The one tile crafting range from chests is also a bit a weird design choice. At least when you use the large boss chests, there is enough room for the most important crafting stations, but it just looks and feels awful.
I don't see a reason why crafting shouldn't just work from any chest in the base, but 50 tiles should do if it has to be limited for some reason.
Yeah, I'm really hoping they expand the range, at least, since it's already in to some degree.
Even if they made us build a link between chests and crafters, or put a range booster on each chest, or whatever else, that wouldn't be as bad as not having it. But these are basic quality of life features, I don't think they affect balance enough to need investing in-game resources in. They're just convenient. Wasting a player's time shouldn't be a feature.
