Character swapping & overwriting glitch in multiplayer

I need help if its possible. I was playing with my friends and siblings about six players ingame including myself, and objects were disappearing on the map. we had just started using portals when the portals turned invisible and unusable, we all agreed I should restart the world to reload the portals since that usually works when things turn invisible, but two people rejoined at the exact same time and there was a problem.
At first the world wasnt loading for them properly, then they were loading my own character's inventory, then they were loading eachother's inventories, and then the game glitched out too much so they restarted their games.

person 1: all their inventory was lost and instead they had the inventory of the other person, their skills and name stayed the same.
person 2: their inventory reset to before they had retrieved their gravestone so they also lost a lot since the grave is gone, their name was overwritten by person1's name, and all their skills became the other person's skills.

Both people now have the same inventory, one has to recreate their entire build, and the other has to start a new character entirely from scratch and grind back all their skills.

Several base elements scattered around the map randomly despawned for no apparent reason as well, though they're not just invisible like in the usual invis-bug.

person1 had the full wildwarden set which took a long time for us all to work for, for them to have it and its a real let down for everyone that they lost it seemingly permanently due to this bug.

The game definitely needs a backup system for such things as this.

I think only had auto doors installed when the incident happened.
