So, the real issue is that you haven't found enough animals to begin breeding. That is a problem inherent in the game, as the enemies WILL attack the farm animals. Which is why the wiki actually warns about this phenomenon and suggests that you close off a meadow from enemies for when you want to deal with breeding later.
All is not lost. Apparently animals will spawn out in Azeos' Wilderness. it's just that you're going to have to leash them a looooong way to your base unless you set up teleporters and just farm where you find the animals.
I already mentioned breeding them in my post... did you actually read it?
And how is a new player supposed to know this ahead of time?
Considering how long it takes to break blocks out there, it's going to take a long time to find a meadow and the enemies out there could probably oneshot the cattle.
Shouldn't have to go to such measures just to get around this stupid annoying problem that shouldn't exist in the first place.
as for meadows, supposedly there are more than 2 in the world (the first initial 2 you find from the beginning).
that being said and as mentioned by another, the easiest solution is to just go to another world, take a hammer or drill, plow through like a mad man and find a meadow, the first 2 meadows "seem" to be always located near the core, but not always the same spot and sometimes they spawn almost next to the core, afterwards... just delete the world you made to find said cattle.
just grab 2 of each from the meadow with the carrying item, so you can stuff them into your backpack, then return to your world and feed n breed them, and if you really want, you can repopulate your worlds meadows with the babies, or farm the babies for what the adult are producing, or slaughter them for the meat.
one thing i have noticed when not feeding them at all, is the strolly pollies in general dont even need to be fed, they find enough from the ground to keep producing (spawned critters), though it doesnt produce half as good with a full belly.
with the above mentioned on feeding, they also wont die if not fed, they just stop producing or having babies.
you can also go through and collect more and store them in a chest for later, if you want to farm more later, or have them set aside in case your current ones somehow meet their ends.... heck i have accidentally killed a few of mine hitting the wrong button, usually the weapon button lol (im using a controller atm).
also to mention, the last animal... the one that eats kelp really isnt worth even finding, let alone keeping to farm its produce, you cant grow kelp and the produce is "ok" at best, the main thing is not being able to grow kelp, meaning you have to fish and gather said kelp to feed the animal.... its bad enough having to collect bugs (or setup nonsense... that barely spawns said critters) to feed the strolly pollies, i aint bothering with kelp lol.
havent read anywhere saying animals spawn in azeos and havent seen a single one so far when wandering around azeos, where did you read or hear about this?
also to mention, there is a cattle transport item, allowing you to carry them in your backpack, they can sit in said item for ever, allowing you to store them for later use, or for safe keeping.
you can also lure them with the food they eat.
leash and teleporter arent the only ways.
I also didn't know from the start that monsters would attack sheeps, I just fenced them so they couldn't wander too far from the feeder (and also so I didn't have to run all over the place to collect their produces)
