how do i set map marker to show on minimap to follow

If you mean pings, the default setting is the middle mouse scroll (assuming you are using one, I don't know the controller settup). You can change to type of marker you place down with the icons at the bottom left of the map.

The circle is a temporary ping, while the others are permanent markers until removed manually.

Those marker will be visible on your mini map for you as well as eventual teammates

so is there no way to make a map marker stay on the minimap to go towards like the boss markers. the ping only lasts a short while while the others just mark on the map not the minimap so i have to keep opening the map to go towards them

I may have worded this poorly, but you have other markers (bottom left of your map) Those markers will remain on your map&mini map.

Only the circle is a temporary marker
