If you rush you can beat all the bosses in under 50 hours, if you're really good at these types of games. But there is a lot of extra stuff to do, with exploration, crafting, decorating, gardening and cooking, maxing out talent trees and pets, hunting for rare and legendary items and equipment sets.

I'd say it's 100% worth it in it's current state. But if you want to wait, there's a whole new biome being added along with a bunch of other new content in a big patch later this year. The outer biomes stretch out infinitely in all directions so you are never really done.
Honestly, development is extremely slow. For being released a couple years ago, It still lacks content, half its item count is just filler items with no use except to be used as a collectable or simply sold to the be used with 2 npc's.

Pet update was nice, and automation is a big reason to why my hours spent is higher than it would be.

I stopped playing relatively quickly because of linear progression.

Two most polarized answers I could have got back to back.

I'd say it's worth the price.

It'll probably take you about 40 or 50 hours if you just want to kill all the bosses. You can spend another 20-40 hours farming boss drops or other loot.

The game already has 6 major biomes each with unique sub-biomes and two bosses each (admittedly the giant slime bosses aren't too distinct from one another).

The game needs more unique enemies per biome but otherwise it's pretty fun Terraria-style sandbox game.

You can see what else they have planned on the roadmap they released a while back:

I own it, but I'm waiting a bit longer for some more quality of life upgrades probably to start playing it again. It needs polish more than anything else to me to get the core gameplay, storage, etc. far less cluttered.

I mean the price is perfectly reasonable regardless of waiting, or not. I just am not huge into earlier stage EA games, and I thought this was further along when I got it several months ago.

Yeah, the price point is okay at the moment, but it's an early access title for sure--bugs, glitches, crashes, and a periodic wait for more content. You could get your money's worth now, but you could also probably wait until the next major content drop and/or find another convenient sale in the meantime.

It was worth it the moment it hit early access, even before all the updates since then.

But hey, I'm an explorer type gamer, if you're not, then you might not enjoy it as much.

I think I'm gonna give Necesse a go right now it's on sale again and only like $6.

No worries waiting on games a bit, I have plenty to play.

As long as I see active development on EA games in this genre, and a developer who isn't a prima-donna I don't worry too much. These kinds of games take a VERY long time to get to the point where they compete with games like Terraria.

Terraria has over a decade of added content to it already, and to expect any of these newer, similar games to be as developed as those are now isn't realistic. We know that it is possible though, with a hard working developer, and this game has sold enough already that the developer can either get filthy rich by working hard still, or take the money and run.

I've got over 50 hours of solo-play in this game now and I'd say it's absolutely worth the money as it is, even without any additions. I'm normally attracted to games with more automation/logic in them than this but, ironically, this game has kept me entertained for far longer than e.g. Factorio or Satisfactory ever did, and that's primarily due to the exploration, combat and progression elements. None of these elements are super advanced or deep, but they are all nicely balanced and keep things just challenging/interesting enough to be fun even at a relaxed pace.

Also, nobody seems to mention the thoroughly excellent soundtrack. Every biome has it's own set of unique tracks and, honestly, they are real earworms. I hear them playing in my head all the time now, which is no bad thing, in my opinion!

With all that said, at 50 hours I am beginning to tire of it a little, and I'm pretty much gunning to kill the final boss before I call it quits now, but that's because I have other games I want to play.

Also, bugs-wise - I can honestly say I never experienced a single one in the entire 50 hours! I don't know what other people have been finding - maybe I've not pushed the game hard enough.

If you don't get your money's worth I'll be amazed.

there is enough content to justify the low price
then come back when the next update hits and start over

Until it's really there, there is not yet mod or Workshop support, and for SurvivalCraft type of games i usually mod it for faster construction, because even with some QOL and boosting type mods such games still took awhile to beat (for example i add Doom guns to Minecraft yet Enderman and EnderDragon is still challenging).

I think more, and more players will get to that point with these games eventually, after just playing it long enough to understand the systems. Then wanting the "end game", and more advanced content to play with. If you have played dozens of these survival craft games already, you know the slog, and aren't really missing anything by going through ALL of it each new game. Chopping down trees to make a shack, etc. Soon games will offer a way to just skip ahead I bet.

Honestly, the option for it will be put into some game eventually. and might be good. It certainly would allow many more people to play that don't have that kind of time. "Starting Resources", or something that allows you to just skip all the Day 1 grinds.

Like just do a mini-tutorial at the start to chop a tree, break a rock, etc., and then each tree, or rock will give you 100 wood, and 100 stone to start...lol
