...or you can do what I did and never even really have to fight him. xD
If you place him about half off the edge of your screen or a bit more, you can shoot him all you want and he doesn't agro. As long as you can do more damage than he regenerates, you can beat him without actually having to deal with him trying to stomp you.
I'm new to to game, so I haven't heard of these items; where are they aquired? Are they dropped by a specific enemy, or?
You can upgrade durability of hoe on repair table( other tools, weapons, armor too). It is yellow hammer icon.
If you fancy a challenge and an item hunt then Glurch is killable with little else than a copper sword and a swift feather.
Then ofc, there's the big cheese... Slime bosses won't aggro 15 tiles away from centre.... I'll leave it to your imagination after that - but things can get dirty and criminal, esp. on resummons.
That's one of the beautiful things about CK - you can fight dirty if want to.
Since the pepper adds movement speed when cooked, if you get enough speed boost, you can just keep dodging.
Combined with the flintlock musket, it can be won quite easily.
The larva ring has been dropping a lot out of copper chests for me. They break down to two tin bars, too, which is always useful. The Valentine rings to, too, btw, and the necklaces are worth five bars.
No one mentioned the spike traps for Glurch. That might be redundant because it's really everywhere you read about the fight, but just in case - go read about the spike traps if you missed it.
The larva necklace seems to drop from cavelings in the clay zone, and not as often, but that might just be my bad RNGeezus.
Good luck!
