NPC Wandering
Note: I'm new to this game.

I killed Glurch and got the trader NPC and he's moved in. I left the door open to the room he's in and I noticed two things:

1. By accident, I hit him when collecting some wood and the number 35 showed above him. Were those points he lost? And can he get killed?

2. I noticed that he wanders far from the room I built for him which had me wondering if he can wander off the base? I spent several minutes blocking him with walls to get him back into the room because he wouldn't go back to it on his own (this time I shut the door). So is it better to leave resident NPCs "locked up" in a room rather than letting them wander around? Most of the screenshots I see have the doors closed.

Really enjoying the game and taking my time with it.

They can die but they have a huge amount of health so you'll never accidentally kill one. If they die they'll eventually respawn as long as they have a valid room.

If you block the door with the object that summons them you'll still be able to interact with them but they won't be able to leave, if you want to keep them locked up.

I build a very small house, 4x4 blocks floor, walls around, bed, summon item and door at north. As suggested, I put the summon item just near the door, so NPC can't get out.

Problem: I can't talk to NPC 50% of time when he "wanders" to the further part of floor block. Really annoying.

Suggestion: make summon item clickable, when clicked - NPC will get summoned into house. Easy.
