Playing Multi-Player between computers in the same house.
I have my one (this one) Steam account loaded into both my Lap-top and my Desk-top. I want to play Core Keeper with my kids. Do I need to create another Steam account for the other computer and install another copy of Core Keeper? I have already tried to open it on both at the same time and it won't.

If the game doesn't explicitly allow 2 controllers, then you're pretty much out of luck. Steam accounts typically allow one active game at a time. It can be somewhat circumvented by setting steam to offline mode, but that will take some experimenting to see what does and doesn't work.

I just tried family sharing (2 steam accounts) and whilst the main account (which owns the game) is offline, it won't connect to a game.

Once my account was online though, it let me join the other game until steam threw the other account off the game for a locked library.

Based on how the game uses codes to join games, it looks like there is a server in the middle of the connection providing the matchmaking, so no pure "lan only" games are going to be possible

edit:

Dedicated servers is also a no no,

looks like you're going to need 2 steam accounts and 2 copies of the game. Not really a downside since the game is just that good.

I created another Steam account and since I already had Core Keeper installed, I just needed to buy the rights for another copy. We can play on both computers now. But, I could not create a game with my desk-top computer and have the lap-top join. I had to make the game on the Lap-top and join with the Desk-top. Maybe that is because the game world on my desk-top copy is established? or maybe because my Lap-top is working overtime to run the game.
