for things like bubble crabs or the scarabs... can they spawn in room if I just put down a ton of beach sand/desert sand? They don't have moss or stuff like that. So not sure how their spawn location is determined.
mold floor produces the mold cavelings and mold tentacles ,i havn't seen the scarb or crabs spawn outside the biome, placed some sand, havn't gotten those two to spawn, but i may not have used enough sand, still fussing with it. red larva are biome specific i believe, they can only spawn in the hive biome.
That said the only literal ground tiles in a mob farm are mold.
I know the tentacles and crabs only spawn in the sea biome, the crabs on beach sand. The red grubs, both varieties, also only spawn in the hive mother dungeon, though you get their statues from other stuff too. Everything else is various ground coverings. Finally the glowing bugs that explode and spread acid only spawn with world gen.
