catching bugs (and what to do with them)

So... I started catching bugs with the Bug Catcher... then began to wonder... is there any point? Is there a display case? Something to craft with them? Or can you just "release" them into a place and they'd stay there?

I find it odd that you can't use them for fish bait or for cooking some exotic dish. Thinking outside the box, why not have a bunch of them run around a hamster wheel to generate power for our base. The possibilities are endless, but the devs don't seem to have implemented anything.

The addition of the bug net is fairly recent and up until this point, bugs have been purely cosmetic. Personally, I would be too surprised if it stayed this way.

Yeah, you just release them. Apparently, when you release them on the ground, they stay there permanently.

This is about a year old. Now insects can be fed to the Strolly Polies. I would love a terrarium for the insects and a fish tank for fish. Something to display the different kinds of creatures you get.

Well well well.... almost 2 years later, I'm still here. Still wishing there was more to do with bugs. :) I have an enclosed gardens where my ground bugs live on an island within the gardens. Still really wish there was a way to display and keep things. Fish is a whole other thing. Can't even make a garden for them. So they just sit in a chest. :(

Yea in 1.0 there's 0 need to manually catch any bugs.

For feeding bug eating livestock you can just build a big Chryssalid room (The maggot spawning stuff) behind their pens and the little non-aggressive maggots will spawn outside the room and it'll keep the livestock fed.

The Fireflies can't even be fed to any livestock. (I swear in older versions they served a purpose. I think making Lanterns?)
