As far as strategies goes, it depends on how much you want to cheapen the fight. For instance, without taking cheap methods, there are a couple things you can do to make the fight easier. Try to break eggs before they hatch. Fish up the green blister fish from the clay biome and make food with it to negate the acid (30 sec).
For cheaper methods, put tin spikes everywhere possible to kill the adds as you run around the boss hitting it. I don't know if spike traps prevent the acid from spawning from the bosses projectile anymore, but rugs do so you could use those.
If you want to go cheap enough to make the fight trivial, you identify the radius from the boss where you cant dig ditches and dig a ditch just outside of that, make a 2x20 strip of land with ditches all the way around it with one bridge to it. Cover the strip of land in carpet. Then put tin spike traps between the ditch and the boss to kill adds. Break the bridge when ready to fight the boss and attack it from the strip of land moving to avoid the acid.
