not worth taking over golden food, but if your playing with other people then go for it
Anyway, as to OP's question: think of it as a weakening agent rather than a lethal toxin. Since it inhibits healing and can potentially worsen the severity of wounds, I imagine it as being something along the lines of an anticoagulant... one that works on insects and gelatinous slime creatures, somehow.
a golden pewpaya / pinegrapple and puffungi gives you a bit over 40% extra damage against bosses
i just cant justify getting a consistant 25% damage bonus over a 28 ~ 40% bonus that takes a little more work to get. not to mention the golden food gives other bonuses too
