Potential Portal Bug

It seems like portals only charge when u r within a radius of them. I've dropped several and returned over an hour later only to find them at the same charge status. Anyone else experiencing this?

Same thing has happened to me. I was able to teleport to it, but once I was there, it was still charging.

Has something to do with render distance. I just plop one down and mine out the area around it within the 20 minutes charge up time.

I've had the same experience. I am trying the "stay close" method right now to see if I can get the portals to charge.

The portals have a visual charge up animation..
four rows of bulbs.. 2x3 and 1 at the top.
this indicates checkpoints for every 5 minutes out of the 20 minutes it takes to charge it up.
