Does light level affect enemy spawns?
Title, do things like torches prevent enemies from spawning? I'm specifically trying to find caveling hunters and I'm having a difficult time so I'm curious if me leaving torches everywhere is preventing them from spawning.

As far as I can tell light DOES affect caveling spawns but not other spawns that spawn from ground stuff (such as slime or larva)

Huh so thats why the cavelings I want to get loot from aren't spawning. Good job noticing that.

Time to untorch the caveling area.

Hold on though, I'm sure light affects larva spawns too since the larva specifically prioritise torches over players when in combat.

What's the mechanics behind getting those darn things to respawn?
I've been trying so hard to farm them for mechanical parts but they're just gone.

I've been trying to test by clearing out huge areas but I still haven't figured anything specific out yet... Best way I've found for finding more is just to explore new areas as tedious as that can be.

I've been trying to figure out the spawn requirements myself. The main factor seems to be that Stone biome cavelings require others of their kind to spawn around. I've definitely manage to get a couple to spawn a bunch more, when left for a good while not too far away.

Biome location is not a requirement and I'm not certain that the darkness thing is actually true, either: one Reddit poster seemingly had loads spawning in their Azeos "zoo". Could be confirmation bias.

More in-game players definitely speeds up their appearance (and maybe aggression).

I'm yet to try testing if caveling crates (or items) help. But enclosure seems to be a thing some on Discord have talked about. Again, no definitive information I've found yet.

I've had a lot (as in a few at a time but several times) of caveling hunters and farmers spawn in my Azeos arena area, though I'm not 100% sure if the natural lighting there counts the same as torch lighting. If it does count the same then I'd feel pretty confident in saying that light doesn't affect their spawns.

So we need to kill all but one just so they respawn?

Well, preferably a few together, with space of more. I'm not sure how's best. But when I've had one alone, it's no more have turned up (it may just be a lot slower). But two together and I soon got 3 more. Then half a dozen, in a Forgotten Ruins open area, and a dozen turned up, after a couple hours AFK, nearby.

Other player's experiences might be more informative, e.g. on the Discord.

Okay so I have to leave an enemy alive and then afk a couple hours next to them in order to farm 6 enemies?
Are you kidding me right now.

I think there will be more efficient spawner setups. For example, populating a few Forgotten Ruins areas with a few cavelings, each (say, trapped on a little island iin the middle), should let each one bread up a dozen or so cavelings every couple hours AFK (solo).

Or you just create a new world and raid that. Especially if looking for mazes, too. Or other map limited items.
