Maybe we should call this passive farming?
I did this also to explore the Core Keeper spawning algorithm.
I'm about to check if a reverse run will increase the yield.

Here's mine , thats for 10-15mins , didnt count but could try to see how many for like 5-10mins or whichever , but its not 1-2 per min , its random , sometimes i only get 4 for 10-15mins , sometimes this much .
But they are small farms too . Hence why when i do need more i just go spawn ivy's area now that i know where it is ! :P
Hope this helps somewhat in your spawn research for farms !!! :D
Do you have any solution with the robotic arm? I watched someone on youtube that tried it and the slimes just destroyed them.
Anyway, I did the reverse test I got about the same spawn rate. So I believe it doesn't matter if you're there or not. They spawn regardless. Then I spent a couple of hours making the rail go vertical instead of horizontal. I have not tested this yet but I suspect I get 2 per minute in that case as well.
So its only spikes spread around the monster farm , to where they die easy after few seconds . :( sry i cant be of much more help for total afk farms ! Cheers to when you find the best optimal afk farm !!!!!
Do you think the drills act as an event area or bubble so that I don't have to walk the conveyor to trigger the transportation?
This concludes that spawning doesn't have anything to do with whether you're there or not. It will not spawn simply because you're close.
Here is the video if you're interested:

As an interesting note, drills will draw in items (and entities) from the space in front of them and move them to the space behind them (at least mine do).
Also remember that the arms grab from the space of the arm (so don't use a conveyor belt on that space or the item can be pushed into the arm, where it won't grab). This means you can have your arms reasonably far away if you are willing to only grab spillover automatically.
