Found a sprouting plant in the wilderness biome, with a spore mask next to it

Any idea what it's for or what to do with it?

I couldn't water it.

And I broke it when I hit it to try to dig it up.

I found that too. I don't think it was anything important, I hope not anyway cause i also tried to dig it up and it just poofed. I think it has something to do with the dead caveling kid you find, that's where his mother is dead. Could be wrong.

It pretty much does, rule it out completely I mean. Ghorm the Devourer is pretty much a 1 to 1 of an Ohmu from Nausicaa.

Edit: well, ... not a 1 to 1, but as close as you can get without outright copying

I don't know much about it, but it sounds plausible enough, and I'm really not into researching it past that.

What I meant was it doesn't rule it out being a special item you can somehow extract for bonus hp or whatever. By some other means we don't know yet.

In Azeos Biome you can find a illuminated island with a sapling and a valuable (mask).
Unfortunately I have broken the sapling.
Maybe it had to be watered?
Has anyone tried something different?

You can't water it, someone else tried it a couple of days ago. They have a lot of random rare to see things in the game.

Lazy dude who didn't read any other posts before posting the Twitter link accidentally gave the other half of the answer. Aside from the Nausicaa reference, the devs made clear that it was also meant to foreshadow the major sub-biome in the Wilderness. They probably ought to have made some edits to the world generator to make those spots easier to encounter though. I came across four of those sub-biomes and cleared one of them well before finding this area.
