What Do I Do?

Just started Chaos Gate.

I did the tutorial and 2 missions. I started travelling towards another planet with a mission and then a notice popped that I wouldn't make it in time.

There are 3 planets with a green glow on them. But there are no missions showing. Am I supposed to keep advancing time until something happens?

You have to go to a planet where you can make it, and once you get there you'll have the option to begin the mission in that planet.

I didn't realise you might have to advance the time quite a bit to get missions again. The 3 planets with the green showing has some sort of enemy presence I am guessing but it doesn't mean there is a mission until you advance time/get the notification.

you can't make it to all of them unfortunately. the green glow means you didn't make it in time and now there is an outbreak =)
I started to play the game 2 days ago and wondered about the same thing.

you can make 3 sometimes, but don't expect it hardly ever

The overworld gameplay, if we're to call it that, is basically like XCOM / UFO Defense gameplay. UH actually the tactical part is like that too...but anyway, the point is that the design revolves around risk management. Prioritize what you can where you can and hope that you don't slide so far downhill that you can't climb out of the pit.
